Cooking With Wine
Modern science, when applied to the millennia old art of wine making, has let the great vineyards of the world produce many vintages which to not need to age in their bottles for extended periods before reaching the peaks of flavor and aroma. But the question remains of how to store other vintages for which the journey to perfection will take more time.
Being that summer is finally here, it is time to put away our gloves, hats and long underwear and embrace the sun shining on our faces! And what better way to spend a lazy summer day than by touring your local winery or vineyard? Many people assume that if you want to visit a winery you have to travel far distances to the larger vineyards of the Napa Valley, the Loire or the Hunter Valley. Truth is, you don’t have to travel very far at all to experience the wonder that is the winery, all the while at the same time supporting and giving back to your local community!
Most Americans would agree that nothing beats a perfectly grilled steak, a tender pork loin or a delicious cut of lamb – especially when paired with just the right glass of full-bodied wine.
Australians also share a genuine passion for barbecuing. While the folks down under are reaching for their “shrimp on the barbie” or their pork, ribs or steak, they also tend to reach for their favorite glass of wine. Quite often, that wine will be a Shiraz, the hallmark grape of Australia. Shiraz, with its rich fruit character, seems perfectly suited to take on any of the big, bold tastes coming off the grill. Ever wonder how to brew wine at home? What do I need? How much will it cost? Is it legal? Well keep reading, I am about to tell you all you need to know to get started on making your wine from home.
If you haven’t noticed yet from the rest of this blog/site, the creator (me, lol) has just released a new book called “Any Glass With Wine In It, Is a Wine Glass! A Real People’s Guide to Wine”.
I’ve never written a book before, but the book has earned wonderful reviews (click on “reviews” above) and has quickly become an Amazon Best Seller!
Would somebody pinch me?
As I wrote, I put thoughts and stories that pertained to wine into the book, many about people I know and love… and of course, after spending close to 10 years in the wine business can easily consider myself an expert at knowing what the average person “doesn’t know” about wine.
The book targets the average wine drinker. The person who does NOT subscribe to wine magazines, read the wine forums and websites, or have a 12,000 bottle collection is who will enjoy and benefit from this book the most. I explain in simple terms how to shop for, order, buy and drink wine, as well as tips on storage, reading wine labels and more. The book is meant to be FUN!
I can assure you that you’ll laugh and learn as you read… and when you put the book down you’ll feel more confident in your wine knowledge, and might even proclaim the “I’ll order the wine” the next time you and your friends are at your favorite restaurant!
Please use this site to learn about wine and to chat with other wine lovers… and of course buy the book… you’ll love it!
Cheers… no wine snobs allowed,
